Making An Impact By Making A Difference...By: Anne Marie Baugh
The fact is that the Internet is more than e-commerce. It's people. And for some people the Internet is the answer to real freedom. A place to overcome huge personal obstacles by making a place in the cyber-community. Perhaps just connecting with others is enough, but for so many it's more than that. It's the hope of a financial future for the single mom who wants to stay home with her children (children who need to have mom home), for the individual struggling with a handicap, for the people burdened with health problems but still have so much to give, for the deaf individual whose plane in cyberspace is level with all the rest. So often we see the Internet as an opportunity to make money, but we forget that often it's an opportunity to make a difference. And conversely, making a difference IS good business. For those that know the ropes, it's time to hold out a helping hand and for those that struggle, it's time to take the hand that's offered. Sometimes we wonder if the rat race hasn't moved onto the digital plane. Yes, there are rats who want to take advantage of newbies. And the race is as competitive now as it's ever been for positioning and recognition for our businesses. For the newbie, it can be exhausting trying to decipher the good from the bad. The sincere from the scary. Not to mention all the information. But there is but one small element of attitude that will make an impact on your business for good. It doesn't matter if your new. It doesn't matter if you know the ropes. It only matters if you want to make a difference. And everyone has something to give to making that difference for someone. And if you don't do for your heart alone, do it for your business, but I strongly suggest you do it for both. So how you say? Well different people do it in different ways. All you have to ask is what you have to give. Some people give more with each sale. Some people offer free service to worthy organizations. Some listen and respond to their emails. Others select so many pro bono cases a month to help someone truly in need. All it means, is the determination to make a positive difference in someone else's life. Admittedly, it can get a little difficult trying to meet expectations and as business people we want to....need to. But add to that a desire for making a difference and it can get a bit overwhelming. However, if you take the desire for making a difference and couple that with gentle boundaries (yes, one of those sickening psychological words) you have a winning combination that works dynamically. At Write-Promotion
we have worked with charitable causes at no charge and often extend a
hand to those that are really trying hard to make it in their business.
Sometimes it's started with an order and became an extended service over
time. There is nothing as rewarding as giving time to the individual that
has true intent and just needs a lift up. Or a push, we push too
