An affiliate program is like a profit sharing program with other website owners. When they refer someone to your site and that person buys something, the referring website owner receives a commission. This is the best kind of advertising as you only pay for the advertising when a sale actually takes place.

Some website owners have an affiliate program created from scratch. Others find existing scripts to purchase and install. Still others use online programs that handle all the technical issues, sales, processing, and commissions. One such program is called ClickBank located at http://www.clickbank.com. You can set up a free account and then put your programs in it for a one-time fee of $50, and then $1 and a percentage for each sale. Clickbank is the most popular online affiliate marketplace.

If you want an affiliate script built from scratch you can find a programmer to do it for you at Scriptlance.com. If you want a pre-written affiliate script just do a search for “affiliate program script” in your favorite search engine. Otherwise, Clickbank is a great way to go.

Once your affiliate program is set up, you will want to announce it to the directories and places where full time affiliates (those website owners that build sites and make their income promoting affiliate programs full-time– which we will discuss in more depth in a future newsletter.)
